Some of you may remember my !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! of a disassembled 1974 Honda CB125 with no title a few months back. I’d never owned a motorcycle, never ridden a motorcycle, didn’t have a motorcycle license, and had no experience working on a motorcycle. Well, today marked the end of that project. Today, I rode it to work. There is something immensely satisfying about enjoying the fruits of ones labors. The trip to work is only 6 or 7 miles, but she handled the trip like a champ. No issues at all, mechanically, and shrugged off the aggravation of rush hour traffic, keeping up with surprising ease for such a small bike. Hopefully there are many, many more trips in her.

I think I’m going to do a whole post on it here soon, as it may be helpful to other people.

Ha ha :) I must have read that post a half dozen times. All of your points are spot on (except the parts availability, I’ve had zero problems finding what I need). The reality of this project however, is that what I did today is likely to be the extent of my motorcycling. I’m not going to tour, I’m not going to cruise, I’m not going to race, I just want something that’s fun to ride to work when the weather is nice. All 45MPH roads, fairly short trip, all that jazz, and I wanted something I considered cool, and economical to run. If I were going to do any more than that, I most definitely would have taken your article to heart.

I must have missed your original post. But have you read
Zen and the Art of Motorcyle Maintenance?
Highly recommend.

Yes, but it’s been twenty-some-odd years since I have. I should re-read it.

Come to think of it, it’s been probably 15 or more years for me. I know right where it is on my bookshelf...
